Hawaii!!

I IS BAAAAAACK! Man, Hawaii was amazing! Though I must say, I officially hate planes. Both flights were absolutely horrible...The first one was rocky and bumpy the whole way, and I of course couldn't sleep, so I had a good 6-7 hours of nausea before I was actually sick...then another hour or so of more nausea before I got sick again...in he airport. Yay, what fun..The second flight was fine. I took motion sickness tablets, so I was fine the whole 10 hours, except it was rainy and stormy when we got back to Sydney, so we were literally one minute away from landing at the airport when the plane accelerated and took off again. We couldn't land because of the wind and then the airport closed because the storms were so bad, so we kinda flew around aimlessly in a circle for about 40 minutes (rocky and bumpy again, I might add) and we kept hitting air pockets which meant that people were screaming and in my mind, a good flight essentially turned into a "OMG we're all gonna die!" flight. I mean, we eventually did land once the airport opened again and by that point I was just thinking "Thank goodness". Mum told me that usually flights aren't that bad, and that will probably never happen again, but so far I'm 2/2 in bad flights, so I'm not liking my odds...

Anyway, now that that's out of the way, it was a really good trip. I mean, I got to finally discover just how truly crappy American cable truly is (now before you start throwing rocks at me - 78 channels and there usually only 1 thing on - sometimes nothing...pretty much as crapy as Australian cable ;) ) Though I must say, I was very disappointed by the lack of DVD shops. We went to 3 or 4 major department stores, not too mention countless smaller ones and we only found 2 places that sell DVDs. I did eventually buy Numb3rs season 3, which I really all I wanted to get anyway, but still, very disappointing. Oh well, I was happy when I got it. Hee!

But yeah, mum and I did all the tourist-y things, like visiting Pearl Harbour, which I must say, kinda creeped me out a little. And you know, we went to the beaches and all around the island, and we tried to watch surfing, but the day we went there, it was cancelled because of the wind (go figure) and the air was hot and sticky and icky...

All in all, very good. I was very proud of myself, I did all the cliche American things (except eating a hot dog, but seriously, there was no way I was doing that) like visiting Wal-mart (very big), eating at IHOP (very nice, and the pancakes were very big) and I finally tried pie (you say "pie" here and you either mean apple pie or meat pie, but no, I tried choclate cream pie, and oh my gosh, why don't they make that here?!)

And my favourite anticdote from the trip was when we almost accidently broke into a marine base (not literally, but its fun to say). We hired a car, and were just driving around, and we started following a main road thinking "ooh, this probably leads somewhere" and at the end there was kind of a "road closed" thing with a booth and everything and mum said "Oh, this looks interesting, lets go in here" and i was like "No mum, marine base marine base. Turn around" so we did, but we went back because we wanted a picture of the sign, so we drove back the guy in the booth saw our car and stepped out of the booth (two events that could be completely unrelated, but it makes for a better anticdote if they weren't) so we quickly snapped a picture and turned around again and drove off. It was hilarious in hindsight though...

So yeah, I'm fairly sure that I left a lot of important stuf out of that, but theres a short summary of my trip, and in case anyone was wondering (they probably weren't) the jet lag hasn't hit me too bad yet, but then again, the time difference isn't that major.

And I still hate planes.

Woohoo! Well of course, I post this at 8am on my birthday, having just woken up. Woot, I'm an adult now! I can drink and go to clubs and stuff - too bad I hate the taste of alcohol lol. I guess I'm just going to have to suffer my way through an obilgatory birthday beer or something. Of course, my brother will probably make me drink, knowing that I hate beer most of all.

After reading theoriginalspy's Numb3rs recaps, and her claiming her birthday as "Be Kind to David Day", I made a joke that I'm claiming some sort of Colby-day for my birthday. So now I am :D Today will be (at least in my mind) the first annual...I-don't-have-a-name-for-it-yet Colby Day. (if you have any suddestions for a name, let me know) When today we shall do things such as junp off tall buildings or into large bodies of water, have someone exposit something to us, make snarky comments and the like (again, any suggestions for Colby-ish things to do, let me know).

Hee! Yes, thats right, I may be older, but I'm still my same old weird Numb3rs/Colby fanatic self.

    <lj:music>The Killers, obviously</lj:music>

Woohoo, I'm leaving for Schoolies tomorrow! So despite my periodical updating of this journal, I won't even be able to post in the groups that I'm actually active in (well, the one - savecolby - at least...) that I still haven't even caught up on after the whole "Exams suck" mentality.

So yeah, leaving to go to the beach for a week to celebrate the end of school with my friends. WOOHOO! And what's more, tonight I'm going to The Killers' concert! This is the time when I can actually get excited about it, because for the last 3 months I've had all the exams to look forward to. Now I'm going to the concert, and about to go to schoolies, then 2 weeks later, I'm leaving for Hawaii! Hee, I love not having school! :D

Now that I'm finished forever, I am going to watch as much TV as I can possibly cram into the next 3 days before I go to Schoolies. Anything I want to watch, anything that I feel like.

*stares at sceen*.......OH MY GOSH, I'M FINISHED SCHOOL FOREVER! HEE! *flails and runs around*

Now I gots some stuff to catch up on. And I gotta get my passport tomorrow, which means I have to go to the city and do it all manually, instead of just sending away for it *grumble* And I still gotta return all my books to school and officially sign out *more grumbles*

Bleh. But I don't really care. I never have to do exams again!...until next year.

<lj:music>Whatever band is playing on the TV in the distance</lj:music>

Well, it's been an odd few weeks. Exams, personal stuff - you know, the usual. Exams are ridiculous. I know it sounds stupid, but at this particular point in time, exams suck. See, the thing about exams is, it seems like the weight of the world is on you and the pressure is insurmountable. But everyone older than you has already done all this, so it seems to them like it pales in comparison to "real life" problems. And while this may be well and good for them, it kinda sucks for us, as it kinda seems like they don't really care about the very real pressure and general air of hopelessness among us all. Like on the first day of exams, our principal says "I would wish you good luck. But I won't. It's not about luck, it's about how much you've studied" and you could just hear everyone scoffing at that statement, true as it may be. It just seems like theres no-one to talk to, because everyone else has their own problems, so it just feels like you're kinda going through it alone. And that's what sucks the most.

Ok, sorry for anyone who actually read that, I just needed to vent.

Well, the exams are kinda going ok I guess. I mean, I know I failed maths extension, but really, the only reason I even sat that test was because I was a bit too lazy to drop the subject in time. Everything else went as well as could be expected. Chemistry and English were kinda random, as the questions in the paper seemed to come out of left field. Absolutely no correlation with any paper done in the past.

That said, I'm just glad they're over with. Only 2 more to go (French and Legal studies) until I'm free forever!...until I go to uni next year, with even harder exams. Oh well.

Not to mention as if exams weren't stressful enough, theres also been some personal stuff going on. I'm not going to go into it, but lets just say that the timing sucked and now I'm a little confused as to exactly how I'm supposed to be feeling about stuff. Something tells me I'm not responding the right way, but well, to each his own. I'm sure it's just my brain dealing with it.

Whew, that was a slightly longer rant than I anticipated. Glad to have it off my chest though.

The Beach

I went to beach with my friends today. Doesn't seem like a really big deal, but the thing is I normally hate the beach. All that sand, and salt, and afterwards even after you've dried and removed any noticable sand, there are salt deposits everywhere. So why did I go, you might ask? (well, you probably wouldn't, but I'll answer anyway). I don't actually know. I mean, my friends didn't guilt me into it or anything, I just felt like going. I wasn't going in the water mind you, because the water would've been freezing, even though it was a really hot day. But it was good, we ate lunch, we sat on the beach and talked for a while, then we left. it was cool though, despite the fact that the car rides there and back were probably longer than the time we spent there.

But after we had left, we went to visit our friend from church. She'd been in Russia for a month and had been back for a few days, but was incommunicado. And out of the blue, she called us so we visited. We talked about graduation and exams and she told us a lot about her trip, which was really exciting because we hadn't seen her in so long. All up, it was just a great day, despite my friends' attempts to annoy me by singing songs that they know annoy me. Oh well, I just sang at the top of my lungs. That shut them up pretty quickly ;)

Now, I've got a party to go to. Though it might be a little awkward because there's a little but of drama at the moment...but, I'll just have to see how it goes tonight.

Well, final exams are in a few weeks. It still hasn't really hit me that I've left school yet. It still feels like school holidays to me. guess thats why I don't want to think about exams. I'm still kinda in denial about them. The good thing is, there were a few study days at school recently, and I feel good because there were a few topics in Maths and Chemistry that I really didn't understand, but after then, I finally get them. Good timing too, because the topics I didn't understand were almost certainly going to be in exams.
